The Global Action Days were initiated to address important environmental challenges and promote collective community action towards sustainable development. By designating specific days for focused global efforts, the campaign aims to raise awareness, mobilise networks, and inspire individuals and organisations worldwide to take coordinated action to ensure a resilient future for all.
Global Actions Days involve hundreds of thousands of individuals from 118 countries working collectively to complete innovative and impactful tasks linked to environmental issues such as climate change and ecosystem restoration. By encouraging our participants to share their Global Action Days stories and successes online and across their networks, they help to inspire others during and after the campaign. Our Global Action Days tasks are designed to be inclusive and can easily be adapted to allow individuals of all ages, with varying levels of environmental experience to take part. From Scout Groups in Benin to hospitality staff in Mexico, from kindergartens in Estonia to university campuses in Qatar, the Global Actions Days bring together communities, education settings, workforces, families and municipalities to take concrete actions that lead positive change and build a more sustainable and equitable world.
The widespread participation and growing momentum of the annual Global Action Days exemplify their expanding reach and impact. With the support of our Foundation for Environmental Education members across 81 countries who run the Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Green Key Awards and supporters such as the World Organisation of the Scout Movement and ASPnet Schools the Global Action Days have transcended geographical boundaries, mobilising diverse stakeholders world wide. Through social media campaigns, webinars, blogs, newstories and word of mouth recommendations- the campaign has resonated with nearly half a million participants across continents who are now advocates of the Global Action Days year after year.
Every year, the Global Action Days campaign takes place over two weeks, starting on World Earth Day. To get involved and join the fun we ask participants to visit our Foundation for Environmental Education Global Action Days website to register for free. Here, participants can download supporting resources available in multiple languages, to help them complete the Global Action Days tasks.
