We envision transformative changes in environmental education that prioritise inclusivity, equity, and innovation. We want young people to engage in their environment through the Global Action Days, providing them with the opportunity to lead by example. We want Global Action Days to start in the classroom and expand beyond into the wider school community- to instil lifelong environmental learning

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

The Global Action Days were initiated to address important environmental challenges and promote collective community action towards sustainable development. By designating specific days for focused global efforts, the campaign aims to raise awareness, mobilise networks, and inspire individuals and organisations worldwide to take coordinated action to ensure a resilient future for all.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Global Actions Days involve hundreds of thousands of individuals from over one hundred countries working collectively to complete innovative and impactful tasks linked to environmental issues such as climate change and ecosystem restoration. By encouraging our participants to share their Global Action Days stories and successes online and across their networks, they help to inspire others during and after the campaign. Our Global Action Days tasks are designed to be inclusive and can easily be adapted to allow individuals of all ages, with varying levels of environmental experience to take part. From Scout Groups in Benin to hospitality staff in Mexico, from kindergartens in Estonia to university campuses in Qatar, the Global Actions Days bring together communities, education settings, workforces, families and municipalities to take concrete actions that lead positive change and build a more sustainable and equitable world.

How has it been spreading?

The widespread participation and growing momentum of the annual Global Action Days exemplify their expanding reach and impact. With the support of our Foundation for Environmental Education members across 81 countries who run the Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Green Key Awards and supporters such as the World Organisation of the Scout movement the Global Action Days have transcended geographical boundaries, mobilising diverse stakeholders world wide. Through social media campaigns, webinars, blogs, newstories and word of mouth recommendations- the campaign has resonated with nearly half a million participants across continents who are now advocates of the Global Action Days year after year.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

The Global Action Days campaign takes place over two weeks, starting each year on World Earth Day. To get involved and join the fun we ask participants to visit our Foundation for Environmental Education Global Action Days website to register for free. Take Action
The Global Action Days campaign starts each year on 22nd April, World Earth Day and runs for two weeks. During the campaign, you can carry out the Global Action Day tasks in any order you choose to suit your schedule. Importantly we ask that after undertaking each task participants share on social media the work they have done using the hashtags #MyActionsMatter #GlobalActionDays #GreeningEducation and #GenerationRestoration so those taking part can celebrate their collective impact.
Provide Feedback
After the Global Action Days campaign ends we ask all those who have taken part to complete our feedback survey to help us collate the impact your actions have had and to help improve the campaign for the following year. Upon completion of the survey, you will receive the prestigious Global Action Days Certificate. This certificate symbolises your dedication to education for sustainable development and serves as a testament to your involvement in a worldwide movement to protect our planet.
Keep Up The Action
