From the beginning of this school back in 1991. The school board envisioned an ideal learning environment that would be truly student-centred where all members of the community are trusted and respected. One thing was certain: people will do the right thing without rules if they are recognised as worthy individuals.
Rather than applying typical school rules that are a list of dos and don'ts, we implemented a set of five principles, i.e. Respect for Self, Respect for Others, Respect for Learning, Respect for the Environment and Respect for Leadership. Due to this open-ended, less is more approach, all members of the community are respected, responsible, responsive as life-long learners who are equipped with a reflective practice to ensure that they have a strong sense of purpose and growth in their time at our school. Our 5 Respects philosophy is a powerful compass that guides us to navigate through the current complex and challenging circumstances around us. It is our moral and ethical standard whenever we want to make the right choices whether it’s small or big. It has liberated us from the tyranny of micro management. It also taught us the importance of the habit of thinking for ourselves. This is an innovation that changes the perspective of how school is perceived and presented.
Prospective families and educators are able to see the school in action at the school’s annual Learning Fair and Campus Tours. The number of participants is increasing every year.
Come and see how we do.
