This is the third in a series of articles meant to give you a better understanding of what you can expect from the first-ever completely virtual HundrED Innovation Summit. This time we will explore the Quality Education for All Showcase. In this session, we will explore how to leverage lessons learned from the COVID pandemic and pose the question: what if the education revolution comes from the most challenging learning environments?

Quality Education for All: What if the Education revolution comes from the most challenging learning environments?

We are currently living through the largest shock to the global education system in modern history. Interruptions to education have happened but not to this magnitude. To quote Global Director for Education at the World Bank, Jaime Saavedra, “We were already living through a learning crisis pre-COVID. We were saying that in the low and middle-income countries, only 53% of children were able to read and understand a text by age 10.”

This 100-minute showcase will discuss how to leverage the knowledge gained from the COVID-19 Pandemic and how we can use this knowledge to help reach the most vulnerable students and truly provide quality education for all.

The season will open with a keynote from Fred Swaniker, Founder of the African Leadership Group. Fred is deeply passionate about Africa and believes that the missing ingredient on the continent is good leadership.

In recognition of his work in developing Africa’s future leaders, Fred was selected as one of 115 young leaders to meet US President Obama at the first-ever President’s Forum for Young African Leaders held at the White House in 2010. He has been recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and was listed by Forbes Magazine among the top ten young ‘power men’ in Africa in 2011. In his keynote, Fred will discuss education in Africa and how he sees the challenges and opportunities there.

We will then move into an Innovator showcase, where three of our selected innovators will share stories of resilience and commitment through these turbulent times. Sonal Kapoor, Founder of Protsahan India Foundation, Martin Burt, Founder & CEO of Fundacion Paraguaya, and Juan Manuel Lopero, Founder & CEO of Tomi.digital will inspire you with how they have managed to turn this year’s challenges into opportunities and managed to grow in adversity

Next, a panel discussion hosted by Vishal Talreja, Co-Founder of Dream a Dream, you will give you the opportunity to engage with:

The session will close with remarks from Laureate of the first edition of the Yidan Prize for Education Development (2017) and 2013 WISE Prize for Education Laureate, Vicky Colbert, the Founder and Director of Fundación Escuela Nueva. Vicky will talk us through her experience creating a new type of school in Columbia so popular it has been adopted in over 20 countries. She has been recognized with several awards and distinctions in the fields of leadership and social entrepreneurship, such as the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Clinton Global Citizenship Award, and the Kravis Prize. She has also been recognized as an Outstanding Social Entrepreneur by the Schwab Foundation, Ashoka, and the World Technology Network.
