5 innovations to support students' social emotional learning

Over the past few decades, there's been a growing focus on supporting students' well-being in schools. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has become a popular way to help young people build essential skills to navigate life’s challenges and develop positive and meaningful relationships with themselves and others.

Below are five exciting new approaches that are creating safer and more supportive spaces for students to thrive in their SEL journey:

4) The Happiness Project

Many people get a moment of happiness when having an ice cream. The Happiness Project started with the idea of making this moment of “happiness” last longer. By offering learning modules focused on connections, kindness, gratitude, creativity, and movement, the Happiness Project helps students improve their Social and Emotional Literacy, and develops stronger connections with others. The project has improved relationships both between students and among students and teachers, and positive impacts on communities across eight countries.

5) Everyday Kindness

Everyday Kindness is a five-week program designed to cultivate kindness in children by fostering children to take meaningful actions. Rooted in CASEL’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework, the program focuses on developing students' five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Through carefully structured activities, students learn to practice kindness, positively impacting themselves and their communities.
