Everyday Kindness

Children can't learn kindness just by thinking or talking about it. This project aims to bring children the value of goodness in life.

School violence has been occurring more and more frequently. Students fighting each other is a pretty normal story every day. It's saddening to have both parents beat teachers or students to beat the teacher who is teaching them. How to minimize this? Kindness is the answer. Children as well as teens can not learn kindness just by thinking or talking about it. They must understand and practice it.

The cornerstone of our initiative is to cultivate a world brimming with compassion, empathy, and kindness. Our vision is for 'Kindness Everyday' to blossom into a vibrant social movement, catalyzing positive change and fostering a sense of unity and generosity within communities.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

School violence is rising alarmingly. Students and parents attacking teachers is heartbreaking. How can we address this? Through kindness. Kids can't learn kindness by just talking about it. They need to practice daily. By making compassion a habit, we shape character and fight violence. This approach changes school culture, building respect and empathy.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

This initiative, rooted in CASEL's SEL framework, teaches kindness through action over mere contemplation. The five-week program aims to cultivate kindness in children via hands-on experiences.
Week 1: Global Kindness Dialogue
Students worldwide discuss and define kindness, identifying kind actions. They collaboratively create personalized action plans for the coming weeks.
Weeks 2-4: Kindness in Action
Participants implement their plans, performing acts of kindness in classrooms, families, and communities. This practical approach allows them to witness the positive impact of their actions firsthand.
Week 5: Global Kindness Exchange
The program culminates in a Kindness-a-Thon, where students share experiences with international peers, fostering a global perspective on kindness.
Finale: School Kindness Day
Each class organizes a kindness day at their school, focusing on charitable activities for their local community.

How has it been spreading?

I am happy that kindness has spread to students in many countries. The creativity in the project is that we helped more than 12,000 students around the globe get the kindness without having to move out of the classroom during the first year of the project. To date, the project has impacted more than 27,000 children globally.. Technology has helped us become a family with the same mission: to be kind. What I’m proud of is that the students who participate in the project get kindness through specific actions, not just speaking or thinking about it. During the time doing the project, I have a lot of interesting stories from my students as well as students around the world. Some of my students used to spend hours playing after school.
