We envision an education system where every child, regardless of war, displacement, or location, has equal access to quality learning. Through AOS, we aim to transform emergency digital solutions into permanent, inclusive infrastructure that empowers learners and educators in Ukraine and beyond.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Originally launched in 2020 as a rapid response to COVID-19 school closures, the All-Ukrainian Online School (AOS) quickly evolved into a long-term strategic solution for Ukraine’s education system – especially after the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. The war have disrupted learning for millions of students, damaged over 3,500 educational institutions, and forced countless families to relocate internally or flee abroad.

In this context, AOS emerged not just as a temporary fix, but as a vital piece of national digital infrastructure –ensuring continuity, equity, and resilience in education.

Officially endorsed by the Ministry of Education, the platform has become Ukraine’s primary tool for distance and hybrid learning. Today, AOS is a lifeline for students across Ukraine and beyond – including displaced learners, those living in frontline areas – offering structured, free, and curriculum-aligned education that’s easily accessible from anywhere.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

It is a national digital platform offering over 4,500 curriculum-aligned video lessons, tests, and summaries in 23 subjects for grades 5–11.

Developed by certified teachers with support from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, AOS supports both independent and teacher-led learning. The development of materials is built on the principle of microlearning. Each lesson in the All-Ukrainian Online School contains three components: an educational video; a synopsis for consolidating the learning material; tests for formative and summative assessment.

All lessons align with the interests and perspectives of contemporary students. 3D models, 3D tours and interactive expositions of world museums, gamification elements and modern computer games (such as WarCraft) are used to present and explain the educational

AOS is designed with inclusive education principles in mind. Its color scheme reduces overstimulation for users with neurological sensitivities, while clear, large fonts support learners with visual impairments. All content on The All-Ukrainian Online School is free, ad-free, and quality-verified by expert panels. Our quality guarantees are methodologists, editors, expert.

How has it been spreading?

The All-Ukrainian Online School (AOS) was launched by Osvitoria in partnership with Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the Ukrainian Institute for Education Development. From the beginning, the initiative united a wide range of national and international stakeholders.

The project has been supported by UNICEF Ukraine, which contributed to training lesson authors and improving content accessibility, especially for children with special educational needs. With the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, a mobile app was launched and platform functionality was expanded to allow teachers to personalize learning materials.

Educational content has been developed with backing from War Child, Katalyst Education, Street Child, UNICEF, Goethe-Institut Ukraine, IREX, SURGe, and the Strategic Committee of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. New materials are also being created with the support of Education Cannot Wait Ukraine.

Since its launch in 2020, AOS has reached over 900,000 registered users, including more than 50,000 new users in Q1 of 2025 alone. The platform continues to demonstrate strong engagement and stability during wartime, building trust both in Ukraine and among the global Ukrainian diaspora.

Our next steps include expanding content to elementary grades, enhancing accessibility (e.g. sign language, audio descriptions), and introducing AI-powered personalization tools to better meet individual learner needs.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

To explore the platform, visit https://lms.e-school.net.ua. All content is free and available without registration, but educators can sign up to unlock classroom features. For implementation in other contexts, contact the Osvitoria team at info@osvitoria.org.
