Take Cover

Use the Take Cover and combat storm intensification caused by climate change.

We are emerging from a particularly troubling era of dangerous climate policy. The one myth you so often hear is that people refuse to evacuate, when in most cases the reason is purely economics, people with disabilities, and children. Use the Take Cover when disasters strike and prevent injuries and deaths.

Catastrophic weather events with most being water-related are no longer rare and surprising. They are frequent and becoming more ferocious and unpredictable around the world. The solution the Take Cover provides is a common sense approach toward survival and having it handy as people conduct their daily routines. Our goal is to provide a life-saving device to those that are less fortunate.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We are emerging from a particularly troubling era of dangerous climate policy. The one myth you so often hear is that in many cases people refuse to evacuate, when in most cases the reason is purely economics, people with disabilities, and children. Our goal is to reach low-income and poverty regions and provide a sound solution in injury prevention or loss of life.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The Take Cover explores the vulnerability of humans and the built environment and their inabilities to withstand the impacts of natural disasters due to Climate Change. The purpose of our patented invention is to provide body conforming flotation padding protection to be used during disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes, ice rescues and flooding. The economic simplicity of the Take Cover is that it deploys from a simple padded square to a T-shaped configuration providing almost complete body coverage. The Take Cover is only composed of four components: neoprene material, flotation padding, web straps and Velcro.

How has it been spreading?

The most important aspect of developing the “Take Cover” ultimately is producing a safe and quality product that meet the requirements for UL certification. Many of the legal requirements have been met such as the Design Patents and Trademarks. Due to the unique design and features of the product our quest has been to partner with a manufacturer that could deliver and provide high quality and professional services to help us achieve bringing a superior product to market. Presently, we are a start-up and have completed our final production model and with the assistance of our manufacturer we were able to complete our research reports and test the functions and now we are ready for production.

Implementation steps

Locate defensive posture using the Take Cover
Because no one wakes up thinking they will be caught in a tornado or flash-flood. We have all been taught to take cover when a tornado might occur by getting into a bathtub or a closet and to protect our body with a mattress. Mattresses are heavy and awkward to move for adults and impossible for children or the elderly to handle. Your car may be caught in a flash flood and rolling out the car window maybe your best option.
