SubSchool

Create courses, teach live, and grade homework with AI

Teachers often juggle separate tools for courses, live lessons, homework, and sales. SubSchool connects these workflows with AI assistance: turn lectures into editable courses, teach 1:1 or groups, generate adaptive homework, and review open-ended work. Educators retain control and can sell a course, module, or lesson.

Target group
We want more learners to access structured, affordable supplementary education and more capable educators to teach online without building a separate technology stack. Our goal is to reduce routine preparation and assessment work so teachers can spend more time understanding learners and improving their lessons. Flexible purchases by lesson or module can help learners start with a specific need. AI should support this work through editable course drafts, adaptive practice, and feedback that educators can review. Over time, we hope to connect independent teachers and small schools with learners who need well-structured content and personal support.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Independent educators often have to combine video calls, course hosting, homework tools, feedback, and payment services. This fragments the teaching workflow and adds preparation and administration time. SubSchool was created to bring these tasks into one platform and make structured online teaching easier to start. AI supports routine authoring and first-pass assessment, while teachers can review and edit the result. Selling individual lessons and modules also lets learners start with the topic they need.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

A teacher starts in the teacher workspace, uploads lecture materials, and uses AI assistance to draft modules, lessons, descriptions, and visuals. The teacher reviews the content, adds exercises, and can combine self-paced study with individual or group live tutoring. Learners access lessons and homework from the student website or mobile apps. AI supports adaptive practice and review of essays, presentations, video answers, and interviews; the educator can inspect submissions and make the final assessment decision. Courses, modules, and lessons can be sold separately.

How has it been spreading?

SubSchool is available through dedicated teacher and student websites and student apps for iOS and Android. Educators can publish courses in the marketplace or bring an existing audience to private courses. Public course pages, individual lesson sales, and referral links support discovery and sharing. The first stable platform was released in 2023; the AI-assisted teaching workflow was launched in 2026. The current focus is adoption by independent teachers, tutors, course creators, and small online schools.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

The platform has evolved from course creation and delivery into an integrated teaching workflow. Recent work added AI-assisted creation from descriptions, books, and videos, homework generation, review of open-ended submissions, refreshed teacher and student web apps, and student mobile access. Teachers can refine AI-generated materials and feedback before using them with learners.

Implementation steps

Start with a learning goal and course materials
Open https://teacher.subschool.us/ and create a course. Define the topic and intended learners. Start from a description, a book, videos, or a manual outline. Use AI assistance to organise modules, lessons, descriptions, and visuals, then review the proposed structure.
Review lessons and prepare practice
Check the generated lesson content, adapt examples to your learners, and add exercises or homework. Review the questions and grading criteria before learners see them. You can combine self-paced materials with scheduled 1:1 or group live lessons and use recordings and chat to keep follow-up work connected.
Publish, teach, and improve from learner work
Choose whether to offer a full course, a module, or individual lessons and review the current pricing terms. Share the course with students at https://class.subschool.us or in the mobile apps. Inspect homework submissions and AI-assisted feedback, make the final assessment decision, and use learner questions and progress to improve the next lesson.
