I hope education moves beyond memorization and helps children develop genuine curiosity about the world around them. Science should not be a subject that students remember for a test and forget afterward. It should inspire them to ask questions, explore ideas, and understand how everyday phenomena work. Through SciFables, I want storytelling to become a bridge between literacy and science education. By presenting scientific concepts through engaging stories, children can develop stronger critical thinking and problem-solving skills while building a deeper understanding of science. I also hope to make high-quality science education more accessible to every child, regardless of where they live or their family's circumstances. By keeping SciFables completely free and partnering with schools, educators, libraries, and nonprofit organizations, I hope more children—especially those from underserved communities—can experience the joy of learning science. Ultimately, I want children to grow up seeing science not as something difficult or intimidating, but as something exciting, meaningful, and relevant to their everyday lives.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I've always loved science and was fascinated by understanding how and why things happen. However, I often found that learning from textbooks focused on remembering facts rather than exploring ideas. While reading stories, I realized how much easier it was to connect with characters, adventures, and lessons. That made me wonder: what if children could learn science the same way? That question inspired me to create SciFables. SciFables transforms scientific concepts into engaging stories with colorful illustrations and interactive quizzes. Instead of memorizing information for a test, children experience science through storytelling, making learning enjoyable, memorable, and meaningful. My mission is to make science enjoyable and accessible for every child, especially those from underserved communities who may not have access to engaging educational resources.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

SciFables is a completely free online platform designed for children ages 8–12. Each lesson begins with an original illustrated story built around a science concept, such as photosynthesis, the water cycle, ecosystems, electricity, or the human body. After reading the story, children complete interactive quizzes that reinforce the concepts in a fun and engaging way. Every story also includes a simple science explanation that connects the adventure back to the real scientific principles. The platform can be used independently by children, by parents for learning at home, by teachers as a classroom resource, or by nonprofits supporting underserved communities. Every story, quiz, and explanation is carefully researched, written, reviewed, and edited before publication to ensure scientific accuracy while remaining easy for children to understand.

How has it been spreading?

SciFables is currently available worldwide as a free online platform. Since launching, the platform has reached users across multiple countries, including the United States, India, Singapore, the Netherlands, Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and South Africa. To expand its impact, I have been actively reaching out to schools, educators, libraries, and nonprofit organizations that work with children. I have also shared SciFables with education leaders and organizations around the world to gather feedback and explore partnerships. My goal is to continue growing through partnerships so more children, especially those in underserved communities, can access engaging science education free of charge.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

SciFables has evolved continuously based on feedback from educators, parents, and early users. The platform has expanded from a small collection of stories into a growing library of nearly 50 science topics. I added audio narration to make stories more accessible for young readers and children with different learning preferences. Interactive quizzes were added to reinforce learning, and each story now includes a clear science explanation to connect the narrative with the underlying concepts. The website has also been improved to provide a better learning experience, including easier navigation, age-appropriate illustrations, and resources that support both classroom and home learning. As SciFables continues to grow, I plan to expand the story library, support additional science topics, and develop new features that make science even more engaging and accessible for children around the world.
