About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

In 2020, there were many digital challenges for education. To respond to these, EAFIT Children's University generated virtual spaces for amazement, experimentation and conversation. It made it possible for the impacted population to stay connected with the knowledge ecosystem created through the methodology.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

EAFIT Children’s University (ECU) has consolidated the development of a new pedagogical model based on scientific thinking through conversation and reflection. ECU has promoted the public engagement with science and technology on children, youth, scientific mediators and teachers. This program aims to contribute with the training of active subjects, in the construction of knowledge and social transformation.
For this, it carries out learning experiences and science's contents, 100% virtual during the pandemic, synchronized and asynchronous. Among digital and analog strategies are podcast, questions network, scientiofono, Club series "4 eyes".

How has it been spreading?

Every year, nearly 280 teachers, 700 children and young people from 157 private and public schools participate at EAFIT Children’s University. The program unfolds through workshops, visits to laboratories, conversations with researchers, games, digital science-communication content, and questions on different topics.
In particular, in 2020, all activities were developed virtually through tools such as social networks, the website, Microsoft teams and YouTube.
