PROJECT ROCKIT Digital hopes to reimagine the future of online safety, anti-bullying, and mental health education, by centring youth lived experience as foundational expertise on the issues impacting young people. We hope to establish widespread social impact by facilitating credible, relevant, peer-based learning in Australian schools, realised through social and digital innovation.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Young people and educators report a stark lack of relevant development to foster digital literacy and inclusion in schools despite a vital need for this support. Compared to their peers, those in regional areas face even greater barriers, alongside higher rates of (cyber)bullying, mental illness and social isolation. PR Digital bridges this gap by delivering youth-centred support into schools.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

PROJECT ROCKIT Digital is a digital platform that hosts a vast bank of youth-created video resources, partnered with tools designed to empower educators to deliver impactful classroom learning. Utilising innovative tech solutions, the platform enables whole school access to search and curate resources, and generate unique links to share content with their students and across teaching domains.

The greatest strength of PROJECT ROCKIT Digital is that it centres lived experience as our foundational expertise on youth issues. Youth participation has extended well beyond pilot implementation into all stages of development– spanning co-research, co-design, co-creation, and as public ambassadors for the launch of the project.

How has it been spreading?

Over the past 10 years, two previous iterations of PROJECT ROCKIT's digital platform have reached upwards of 70,000 young people, supporting students and teachers during the global pandemic and drawing global attention for our methodology of partnering youth co-design with digital innovation. To date, the content featured in PROJECT ROCKIT Digital has been created in partnership with Google, Kids Helpline, and TikTok, leading to top quality production and an explosion of grassroots engagement across social media channels.

Over the next 2-3 years, our plan is to scale PROJECT ROCKIT Digital to reach thousands of schools across over Australia and support PROJECT ROCKIT's goal of positively impacting 1 million young people by 2023.
