about the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Uganda: teacher absenteeism (TA) rate is 20-30%, also many teachers who are present are not actually teaching. $30 million the estimated cost of TA per year for services paid for & not delivered. Teacher are absent due to low morale cause by low remuneration, High cost of professional development, no training on how to manage large classes & Poor recognition. our innovation address 3/4 causes

How does your innovation work in practice?

Boosting teachers’ morale by providing them with laptops with sim card slot that would enable them to access the internet and thus ease and increase their access to professional development. Each teacher will receive one laptop with a sim card slot as well as a solar laptop recharger. Teachers use the laptop to access online course for professional development, as well as teaching content and to collaborate with the other teacher. Teachers will not only use their newly acquired skills and teaching methods in the classroom but also access better pay jobs in the educational field and actively participate in the digital economy. Increasing teacher Morale will not only reduce the number of teachers leaving the profession. On average each school has 20 teachers so donors are asked to sponsor a school or group of schools @ a cost of $600 per laptop per teacher or $12,000 per school. Each Laptop come with proprietary eLearning solution Digital Science and virtual Lab for secondary schools.

How has it been spreading?

We had succeeded in concept and proposal development. Then the pandemic hit the world and we unable to secure donors or sponsors. We are now actively look for sponsors to fund the project.
