The Home of African Animation

Muna TV is an AI-powered streaming platform and marketplace dedicated exclusively to African animation, serving as the definitive "Netflix for African Animation." We solve the critical underrepresentation of African narratives in children's media by providing culturally relevant educational content for families and a fair monetization ecosystem for African animators.

We imagine an education where every African child learns through stories that reflect their culture, language, and identity. This change can turn classrooms and homes into places where cultural pride and academic growth thrive together. By providing culturally relevant content, we want to close representation gaps and create lasting opportunities for local creators.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created Muna TV to address a serious issue of representation. In Africa, 68% of characters in children's media are non-African, and 9 out of 10 children watch more foreign content than local shows. This isn't just a gap in entertainment; it’s an educational and cultural crisis. When children don’t see themselves as heroes in the stories, it harms their cultural identity, stifles imagination, and affects learning outcomes. At the same time, talented African animators did not have a dedicated platform to showcase their work and earn a living.

Muna TV is our answer: a platform where African children can find stories that sound, look, and feel like home, while African creators finally have a place for their work. We're not just streaming content; we're rebuilding cultural identity and creating a sustainable creative economy, one story at a time.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, Muna TV is a lively, easy-to-use streaming platform and marketplace that brings African stories to life. For a child in Ghana or Nigeria, it resembles a personalized Netflix-style app filled with engaging African animations. The characters speak their languages and represent their culture. They can watch stories in Yoruba, Swahili, or Twi, interact with AI-powered reading companions, and take quizzes that make learning fun.

For an animator in Senegal or Kenya, it's a professional dashboard where they can upload their work, get real-time data about their audience, and receive fair payments through our revenue-sharing model. They join a network of creators, gaining visibility across Africa and beyond.

Behind the scenes, our AI engine personalizes content recommendations and offers helpful insights to creators. Our strong marketplace connects publishers with animators. The platform works smoothly across devices, with offline features ensuring access in areas with limited connectivity. This is a complete system where creation, distribution, and cultural preservation happen all at once.

How has it been spreading?

Our growth has come from community demand and partnerships. We've achieved over 5,000 organic views with an impressive 74% completion rate, which is much higher than the industry average. This shows strong user engagement. Our creator network now includes over 40 professional animators from 13 African countries. They have contributed to our collection of more than 300 culturally relevant stories.

Key partnerships with organizations such as UNICEF Ghana, Google News Initiative, and the Ghana Publishers Association have been vital to our expansion. These collaborations have given us validation and helped us reach new communities. We've also received recognition through awards like Best Media Platform for Children's Content (OAPE 2024), which boosts our credibility and visibility.

Our growth strategy mixes digital distribution via our streaming platform with community engagement through school programs, library initiatives, and creator workshops in Ghana, Togo, and Ivory Coast. This approach helps us build our digital presence while also making a real-world impact, creating a sustainable ecosystem that spreads through both technology and personal connections.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Since our initial launch, we have improved Muna TV from a basic content library to a powerful, AI-driven ecosystem. We integrated an adaptive learning engine that personalizes content recommendations based on each child's viewing habits and language preferences. This change has significantly increased engagement, resulting in a 74% completion rate. We built and launched a Creator Portal with analytics tools. This gives animators insights into audience behavior and helps them improve their content strategy.

We expanded from a streaming service to a true marketplace. We introduced a fair revenue-sharing model, giving creators 70-80% of earnings, and established systems for content licensing and B2B services. Based on user feedback, we prioritized developing offline functionality and mobile-first design to serve communities with limited connectivity. Most recently, we started exploring blockchain integration on Algorand to create clear royalty distribution and new revenue streams from digital collectibles for creators. Each change focuses on our dual mission: enhancing educational impact for children and building a more sustainable economic model for African animators.
