About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

LiveBook’s mission is to make personalised learning as widely available as possible. We collect the best educational content, curate that content, and deliver that content in an accessible way. We offer all educational services for free because we believe access to high quality education is a universal right.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

LiveBook is a peer-to-peer AR platform. Instead of buying expensive supplementary books, students can simply point their camera at their own school books and see what files had been added by other students, effectively turning each page of their books into a wikipedia of related material. Compared to the predatory supplementary industry our main advantages are that LiveBook is completely free, instead of being single sourced it offers a variety of content that delivers the best value to students. It enhances children's self-confidence by allowing them to take part in each others learning, and it’s completely paperless in a paper-based industry.

How has it been spreading?

We wanted to make a free, environmentally-friendly alternative to all these books that were forced upon students every year. So we designed a peer-to-peer Augmented Reality (AR) platform based on standard school textbooks. Instead of buying expensive supplements students can simply point their cameras at any page and see what files were added by other students and teachers and add files of their own, in effect turning each page of their textbooks into a Wikipedia of related material.
We participated in the WSIS hackathon and won the UNESCO prize for the most creative application idea. We also won the first prize at INOTEX Tehran in 2022. We gained 300,000 users in the first year and reached one million users in our second year through word of mouth.

Impact & scalability

HundrED Academy Reviews

This is my ideal innovation for two main reasons. Firstly, the learning resources are crowdsourced. With over a million users sharing resources, the impact this could have is phenomenal. Secondly, it is free. No one is systemically excluded. Perfect!

As an online-based application, the innovation has shown that it is scalable even to disadvantaged communities.
