About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Traditional learning models with their standardised approaches still focus on a schooling paradigm well past its use-by date. The Elements recognise the critical role that learning within a positive community has and aims to develop lifelong autonomous learning capability. By authentically activating learner agency, any learner is better prepared for an ever-changing world.

How does your innovation work in practice?

The 21 elements are divided into three clusters. Each element offers strategies and inspiration for individuals and communities to reimagine themselves. The clusters consist of seven elements which provide the framework for preparing, implementing and sustaining change in any community.

‘Preparing the Community’ communicates how to deliberately shape a positive learning culture by establishing vision, values, purpose, positive relationships and mindsets. ‘Implementing the Model’, creates exceptional learning opportunities relevant to the 21st century. ‘Supporting and Sustaining the Community’ provides blueprints to challenge communities to reimagine, reinvent and reconstruct themselves to remain relevant in an increasingly agile world.

The Elements empower learning teams to make decisions unbound by the burden of standardised assessment. They enable learners to go deep into learning which aligns with their unique passions and inspires their own personal lifelong learning journey.

How has it been spreading?

The Elements have been created to be freely used by all. Our Learnlife Alliance, a global tribe of learning innovators & leaders, provides access to the Elements to share, learn, discuss & shape a new learning paradigm. The Alliance’s mission is to connect & inspire the momentum to drive learning innovation by providing access to future-focused lifelong learning for all.

Our Learnhubs are lighthouses that empower communities by making a new paradigm experienceable. Learnhubs provide inspiration to re-think education & catalyse change. We operate two physical Learnhubs in Barcelona & an online Home Hub that connects learners from around the world. The Elements have inspired change in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Brazil and Australia and continue to spread across the globe.

Steps

Access and implement The Elements of Learning Innovation

The Elements of Learning Innovation are available to any person or community via https://www.learnlife.com/learning-paradigm

There are 21 different elements outlined to help any community understand a wide range of topics to considering if they wish to establish innovative learning communities, well-suited to the ever-changing realities of the twenty-first century. Each element  is outlined as a topic that might need to be considered if people are seeking to create and embed an authentic and sustainable learning community. The elements are intentionally culture and context neutral in order to have relevance to any community.

The 21 topics include a focus on Preparing the Community: Joining the Alliance; Purpose-inspired learning; Vision & values; Positive relationships; Growth mindsets; Culture & vision and Learning cultures. The second area for focus are multiple topics relevant to successfully Implementing the Model, covering the following areas: Well-being, Personal learning, Learning methodologies; Competencies; Learning design; Online & blended learning and 360° assessments. Lastly, the elements key to Supporting and Sustaining Innovation include: developing a Learning Vitae, embedding diverse learning programmes along with a range of related topics including: developing creative environments; using digital platforms; creative resourcing ideas; the role of ongoing research & the importance of collective envisioning, as well as thinking through multiple life dimensions to encourage a deeper impact arising from different learning experiences.

The Elements have not been created as a 'copy and paste' textbook approach to change. Rather, they cover a range of topics that could be relevant to individual contexts and cover the types of questions that are potentially related to that topic. They also provide many continually updated case studies to inspire further thinking and vision.

The sample PDF included as a download on this page is from Cluster One of the Elements. It involves the importance of envisioning a purpose-inspired learning model. The next step for any community interested in creating or transforming a learning community more aligned to the ever-changing needs and contexts of this century, is to join the Learnlife Alliance and gain the support of other like-minded communities, download the Elements of Learning Innovation and start creating their own journey.  Reach out to Learnlife too, because we'd love to help you.
