Learning in Tabs

Creating a better future through education

As learning poverty arose after the pandemic, the use of technology in teaching-learning became necessary. 'Learning in Tabs' addresses this challenge by providing a platform; available both online and offline. It includes national curriculum-based learning materials. The offline version can be accessed using tabs in classrooms, allowing students to use quality learning materials.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Around 38 million students were negatively impacted because of the school closure and only 2% of the 21% of students that have internet access could avail of the government-initiated recovery program. Learning in Tabs (LIT) seeks to address the challenges in teaching and learning in Bangladesh, especially in numeracy and literacy, which worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a comprehensiv

What does your innovation look like in practice?

This innovation, incorporating edtech solutions for learning, is providing a hybrid learning model where students use tabs in classrooms to access Agami’s learning platform through Kolibri which is an open-source platform that provides offline access to digital educational content. The platform combines an array of content, video, exercises, and articles - including localized content of Khan Academy and locally created content of Khan Academy Bangla, and videos developed for the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh- allowing students to use them for classroom instruction and self-paced learning. In the offline model, the students use the content individually or in small groups of 2-4 students as part of their regular learning activities in classrooms. The practice is guided by the teachers according to their needs to supplement the teaching process. Students can learn at their own pace outside the classroom through an online version of the platform.

How has it been spreading?

The growth of the platform is a continuous process. Currently, 256 videos and 119 exercises on the mathematics of primary and early-secondary level students are available on the platform, used by around 600 students and 15 teachers across the country. The platform is also used by individual learners. We see improvements in terms of student attendance and interest in learning. The offline model was disseminated in 3 schools in 2022, and 5 schools in the first quarter of 2023. We aim to reach 12 more schools and around 1000 students in 2023 and disseminate 200 devices. Our goal is to include content on language, both Bangla and English, science, and ICT, and improve teachers’ capacity by providing them with specialized training and including content in the platform tailored to their needs.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Our learning platform is available for Bangla-speaking learners anywhere. Simply visit learn.agami.org to access the platform. Create an account to track your learning progress. You can also explore the platform without an account.
