In the Wild

Connecting kids to nature and wellbeing

Our bodies are designed to move and be in nature, typically kids are not doing enough of either of these. Our award wining "In the Wild" tools, for schools (Primary & Secondary) and families teach kids well-being tools whilst increasing physical activity and access to nature, a crucial component (in a complex puzzle) in promoting mental well-being, especially for kids.

We want to reduce the burden on the NHS, special schools, social services and increase performance in schools; by providing a proactive school community wide well-being support system in schools. Our In the Wild framework does just this, we need to get nature time on the curriculum in schools, nature plus wellbeing tools are a power tool to support kids and the staff that support them.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Our bodies are designed to move & be in nature” and today we are not doing enough of either of these. We saw first hand the lack of time kids have in nature and the increase of levels of anxiety in kids, we needed to do something. Kids had never touched soil, scared of being outside, never seen a worm (true story). We give them crucial nature time, stacked with wellbeing tools for life.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Our award-winning tools and programmes help connect kids and the people that support them to nature, they are delivered by a network of coaches in the UK and overseas.

Our “In the Wild tools” create positive impact on many levels, by getting participants outside (when they would not normally, in spaces they don’t normal access) and teaching well-being tools, enabling participants to deeply connect with nature and learn more about their emotions and how to positively influence them
Our flexible range of tools for ages 4 to 18 inc:

- Five week programme that is adaptable in a Primary setting for KS1 and Ks2
- Five week programme for secondary.
- Two hour workshops developed for families.

Our network of coaches facilitate this amazing learning experience in both Primary and Secondary schools (and family workshops) giving kids (and teachers) the confidence to be in nature, while learning key life skills for improved mental health.

How has it been spreading?

We have been growing a network of in the wild leaders who deliver the workshops and also training teachers to deliver the programme in schools.

We have also been delivering In the Wild workshops to secondary school in Coventry, UK as part of a whole school programme, to year 7 (240 kids) and soon will be rolling this out to Year 8 the feedback from learners and staff has been incredible.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
