In the last two years, education in Colombia has shown tremendous backwardness as a consequence of Covid-19. Due to the confinement measures decreed by the Colombian government, educational institutions were forced to close their face-to-face classes and quickly migrate to virtuality. However, in most cases, teachers did not have the necessary tools to face the new educational challenges.
BAM was born, a virtual course designed for K-12 teachers. Its main objective is to train teachers in three main areas: socioemotional learning, innovation skills, and technological tools.
BAM uses a dynamic methodology known as "experiential education." Thus, teachers face different challenges and playful activities throughout the course whose objective is to acquire skills and new knowledge through their direct experience.
BAM is composed of six synchronous sessions and five asynchronous sessions. In this way, teachers have virtual meetings in which they can interact and participate in real-time. However, before each of these meetings, they must visit the digital platform of the course and review the asynchronous material exposed there. In addition to being user-friendly and intuitive, this platform was designed so that teachers can share their innovative proposals with other educators, thus generating collaborative learning and a virtual network of teachers.
With nine months in the market, we have trained 150 teachers from 15 educational institutions. We use to work in the outdoor education sector. Due to the pandemic, we found another way to generate value, bringing our methodology and flexibility to the classroom. We have held 8 webinars/programs with clients, leveraging our experience and good name in the market. At the moment we are improving the platform, in contact with government entities to acquire resources and be able to use new interaction methods, due to the low level of connectivity of teachers in Latin America. In 2 to 3 years we hope to have trained more than 2000 teachers in our 3 objectives, have an autonomous learning community, which constantly provides feedback, presence in South America and to be entering Central America.
