Algae Biofuel, Fertilizer and water purifier

The future of sustainable world

Problem- environmental contamination and health crisis due to non renewable fossil fuels , lack of eco-friendly fertilizers and impure water. Solution- Algae Biodiesel which is most efficient ( 35-40 MJ/L) , and does least carbon emission. The project also produces a valuable biofertilizer reducing use of chemical fertilizers and a water purification system that purifies the waste algae water.

The integration of algae biofuel innovation into education presents a unique opportunity to enhance sustainability awareness, practical learning, and scientific advancements. This innovative project can bring significant changes in education by promoting environmental consciousness, hands-on experimentation, and interdisciplinary learning.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

To promote the use of sustainable fuel sources throughout the world and ensure there is a positive use of the algae wastewater in the ponds and lakes.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

This article explores the step-by-step process of establishing a small-scale algae biofuel system.
Step 1: Water Purification and Algae Separation

Our model utilizes a simple filtration system to purify water and separate algae.
Water is poured into a transparent box with a cheesecloth-covered PVC pipe at the bottom.
The water drains through the cheesecloth, leaving the algae behind in the box.
The filtered water is further purified by passing through sand filter and activated carbon in a bottle attached to the PVC pipe.
Step 2: Algae Processing and Biofuel Production

The algae collected in the box is transferred to a blender and pulverized into a puree.
The algae puree is then placed in a round-bottom flask and mixed with specific chemicals.
The flask is left undisturbed for 24 hours, allowing the biofuel to form on the top layer.
Step 3: Biofuel and Biofertilizer Collection

After 24 hours, the biofuel is collected.
The remaining residue is a valuable biofuel.

How has it been spreading?

It is well known around the world but yet it is still not very much recognised , it is widely spreading but still not in practical use. Small-scale algae biofuel projects are spreading rapidly as individuals and communities recognize their potential. Whether used for personal energy needs, local farming, or research initiatives, algae biofuel offers a promising, low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels. As technology advances and awareness grows, small-scale biofuel systems may become a key part of decentralized energy solutions worldwide.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

This project can be implemented on small scale and an individual can try it by following our steps explained above in the methodology
