A national survey found that no principal completed leadership-focused training in 10 states (NITI Aayog 2019) and Indian school leaders have substantially lower skills than their peers in 7 countries (GSL 2020). 1.5 million school principals in India lack the knowledge, skills, and mindset required to manage schools that prepare 240 million Indian children for the 21st century.
The 3 pillars of Rehnuma are workshops, personalized coaching, and peer-learning communities.
Our incubator builds principals to design and share solutions for school transformation. This fosters a culture of innovation at the school & system level by enabling principals to lead educational change and decentralize school leadership. Rehnuma coaches guide principals to apply workshop learnings to start school transformation projects using their local knowledge and skillsets. These sustainable innovations are documented and scaled to principals of similar contexts through our content platform, peer-learning circles, and partnerships with district governments & NGOs.
In a survey conducted with 74 principals across India, nearly all found Rehnuma interventions to be practical & relevant to their context. 90% believed that their team had the capacity to implement them & 61% intended to implement between 5-10 such practices within their school.
80+ principals have been coached with learnings from our 25 incubatees from impacting 100,000 students. We have formed a strategic alliance with 3 cities of Teach for India to certify fellows as school coaches who will lead principals to implement school improvement projects. Rehnuma was one of the 31 global initiatives published by UNESCO as a transformational innovation during COVID that could shape the future of education.
Goals:
1) Digitize workshops and best practices into 12 self-learning courses for principals
2) Implement a large-scale pilot with 150 principals (affecting 135,000 children)
3) Create a school coach certification program to build the capacity of partner NGOs
