I hope to see students capable of basic English communication, thus laying the foundation for prosperous future development, which is what we seek. I hope the project continues long-term. I also hope they develop a passion for learning English and decide to practice it on their own, not out of obligation.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Lord Byron students take the IB (International Baccalaureate) program, where in the CAS course, we are encouraged to found a project that helps make the world a better place for everyone. That is why we divided ourselves into groups with different projects, our innovation was born from the idea of being able to bring something as vital as English to people without the possibility of learning it, As technology constantly drives global globalization today, foreign companies are located all over the world and English is the only way to communicate and form social relationships to function in the modern world.
At Lord Byron School, we teach English from the beginning, so we have a B2 level that gives us the confidence to teach English to primary school students.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The students show great enthusiasm, which has also shown rapid development in their English skills. Since classes are entirely in English, we aim to get them accustomed to how English is pronounced and heard. Likewise, thanks to our recreational activities, classes are not stressful. We seek a more recreational teaching methodology that focuses on developing a love of learning. Once they develop that love of learning, the rest will become much easier. For now, the classes are a success, and with more activities such as the use of puppets and flashcards, we aim to achieve all the established objectives.

How has it been spreading?

The project, having only been in existence this year and having only started for two weeks, is still focused on a single school, with a group of 20 students. However, these children are loving the classes and are asking for more hours of class, so it is now certain that the project will be extended throughout the following year and, with greater funding, will be able to reach more low-income schools in Arequipa and soon in Peru, which is our future objective.

Implementation steps

LB Teach - Jugar y Aprender un futuro por hacer.
1. Start with an introduction of your name and age in English.
2. After this, during the remaining sessions, there will be various English learning activities and classes held on a whiteboard and marker with two teachers and a supervisor.
3. Students will be given homework and activities to practice the language at home so they don't lose out on language skills.
4. After 3 months, an evaluation will be conducted to check for improvement before and after the sessions.
