I saw a huge disconnect between what students are being taught in science classes in school and how they actually relate the concepts they have learnt to real world phenomenon. I wanted to simplify science to the bare basics and connect it with real world phenomenon for students to truly enjoy the beauty of it and apply it to their daily lives later on.
I chose Instagram as the main platform to showcase my illustrated science nuggets. We see a lot of young adults and teens use Instagram. They scroll through hundreds and thousands of content everyday. I wanted to catch their attention as they scrolled through Instagram. What if I could illustrate fundamental science concepts, one per day and posted it to Instagram? I try to make it visually engaging, colourful and silly. The silliness made sure the content never got too complex, boring or niche. Also, I made sure to simplify the verbal language as much as possible, reducing everything to a lay-man's terms of understanding. It has received a lot of optimism and positive feedback from students, parents, educators and just everybody. I'm right now illustrating the first chapter in XII Standard Physics textbook. Twenty odd posts later, my followers are close to completing their first high school Physics chapter, scrolling through my Instagram posts.
My Science Nuggets are fairly young. I started them a little over a month ago. I have created a page on instagram (https://www.instagram.com/wonder.yonder/) It has a small but dedicated following. I would love for it to reach as many individuals as possible. I am now looking at spreading the word, collaborating with other instagram handles and organisations in order to reach out to a wider audience.
