Why did you create this innovation?
According to a UNESCO Statistics report of 2019, it was stated that 1 out of 3 teachers in Africa lack training. It is an agreed fact that quality education begins with qualified teachers who deliver good lessons so that students can learn. However, the percentage of trained teachers has been steadily falling from 85% to 64% at the primary level and from 79% to 50% at the secondary level in 2017.
How does your innovation work in practice?
Schoolinka.com is the one-stop-shop for teachers' continuous professional development. With a learning model that is powered by a faculty of educators with experience and expertise, we are able to design quality learning programs for teachers. Our faculty members are teacher training consultants and teacher training colleges who design training programs and host them on our platform for thousands of teachers across Africa. The training programs are either delivered through our online learning platform as massive open online courses or through instructor-led online classes and in-person training events.
We create both B2B and B2C partnerships with as many training program creators with proven expertise as possible, so that we can constantly create more engaging professional development content for teachers. Our training partners/faculty use our platform to reach many teachers at no cost and receive a percentage of earnings on the training programs they host on Schoolinka.com.
How has it been spreading?
We have worked with over 2,000 teachers in our in-person workshops, instructor-led online classes and through our online learning platform. These teachers have learned modules like effective classroom management, differentiation in learning, assessment for learning, multiple intelligence, and even how to use technology to power learning in their classrooms, amongst many others.
Currently, we have a faculty of over 50 course creators who are educators with quality experience and expertise and they design the learning programs that we offer to teachers via our channels.
Our partnership with schools and governments is helping us reach out to many more teachers as possible and we are looking forward to gaining entry into other African countries.
