The Cambridge Connected Curriculum

A mapped Learning Adventure through Cambridge for life long learning, fulfilment and fun!

The Cambridge Connected Curriculum uses our locality, city and world as starting points for the child's Learning Adventure. Tangible maps illustrate the child's connection to the stories, people and places in the present and in the past as ways to help them to navigate the future. In addtion, children also collect digital badges as a record of knowledge and eight essential global competencies.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Despite the perception, Cambridge is the most unequal City in England. Our innovation has been designed to ensure that our children develop a strong sense of connection, belonging and understanding of the worlds around them and through this are inspired to participate, build partnerships, realise potential and transform their own and others' lives for the better.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Our innovation has several components. It is 420 beautiful double-sided professionally illustrated maps one for each child in the school. Each one contained in an individual map case on a lanyard which is given to each child. There are seven different maps, one for every year that a child's is at Milton Road Primary School. The maps show some of the key people, places, stories and opportunities that are part of the child's mapped "Learning Adventure". On the other side of the maps is a compass surrounded with eight the words of essential global competencies, as well as 101 practical experiences the child will have, such as bird watching, mountain climbing, bread making, tree climbing etc.
In addition each of the experiences links to a digital badge that the child can claim. There are over 108 to collect.
In addtion there is a fully developed currciulum with learning objectives that aligns to the statutory National Curriculum.

How has it been spreading?

I have spoken at difference points about the development of this innovation including at Conferences and in both of my books. On 23rd April 2025, we are having a formal launch event.

If I want to try it, what should I do?
