The Ballerina Project India

place India + 4 more

A place where aspiring dancers and others can learn more about the fascinating art of ballet!

Co-founded by Aanyaa Garatikar, The Ballerina Project India works to make ballet inclusive and accessible. Based on experiences and research, it challenges harmful body standards and limited awareness while promoting body positivity, injury prevention, and the belief that ballet is for everyone. More than a blog, it is a growing community supporting SDGs 3 and 10 and inspiring change in the arts.

Learning dance shouldn’t make people feel left out or not good enough. Through our work, we hope that the world can see that ballet and other forms of art are for everyone. We want education to be more open and understanding and value movement and self-expression, not just academics, and to create space for conversations around body image, inclusion, and the power of the arts.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Ballet’s amazing, but it’s often seen as something only a few people can do. The Ballerina Project India was created to change that. A lot of dancers here don’t get access to proper training or feel excluded because of body standards or stereotypes. We wanted to make ballet more open, safe, and welcoming for everyone who loves to dance. In India, many people still don’t know the benefits of ballet. This project spreads awareness, breaks stereotypes, and makes ballet more inclusive and accessible to all.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, The Ballerina Project India is a blog and growing community where we share articles, insights, and stories about ballet. We cover topics like injury prevention, body image, history, and technique. It’s a space for dancers and beginners to learn, feel seen, and discover how ballet can be for everyone.

How has it been spreading?

We’ve been sharing our blog through word of mouth, school networks, and social media. Dancers, teachers, and even non-dancers have started engaging with the content, sharing it, and reaching out. It’s slowly building into a community of people who care about making ballet more inclusive, especially in places where it’s still growing.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

As of November 2025, we've recently begun a Google Groups page for and have begun to form a small community of ballet dancers and enthusiasts.

We've also recently created our own LinkedIn page alongside our existing Instagram page.
