In Mexico there is a large educational gap in science & technology, it is becoming more difficult for students to pursue careers derived from STEM, as a consequence, there is a high dropout rate in technical or engineering careers and every time they are less; my goal is to offer the opportunity to bring STEM closer to vulnerable sectors and make the study of science a fun activity.
I have students from preschool to high school and they have been interested in science and technology, now they have a motivation to continue their studies focused on a technical or engineering career. We offer Game Coding workshops as well as educational robotics, both focused on creating skills for everyday life, my three axes of work are: 1)Common topics taken to the technological level 2)Tech skills and abilities 3) Values, cause another big problem in Mexico is the lack of values that translates into social problems such as robbery and the increasing participation of vulnerable sectors such as minors in drug trafficking and crime. Several former students have continued their studies and obtained their professional degrees, the materials we use in class are: For robotics we use Knex pieces, also a Raspberry device that works as a motor controller connected into a smart phone or tablet, for game coding we use a device connected to a Microsoft's plattform called Makecode Arcade.
At first it was among the parents of my students and later through the diffusion in social networks. There are more and more students interested in joining the courses and workshops, we break paradigms that programming and robotics require extensive prior technical knowledge and that they are expensive. We want to reach more students throughout Mexico and LATAM, offer the opportunity to grant scholarships to students who do not have the economic capacity to attend the workshops and also the creation of a program to recover and recondition computer equipment to donate it to low-income students. Later we want to create a bond with the Knex company to be able to have materials for robotics at a more accessible cost.
Contact us: FB "Espejo Asesores Educativos" and let's talk to find out if "STEM by me" can help you. One of the benefits of the program is that it is inclusive. We've students diagnosed with hyperactivity and autism who have managed to develop attention and interest in science that they would not have achieved otherwise or with a traditional program.
