Paper is an integral part of every classroom in the world, but it is disconnected from the digital domain. Paper assessments provide authentic and deeper insights into learning, but it is time-consuming for teachers to grade papers. We created Smart Paper so that classrooms across the world, whether they are from high or low-income countries, can benefit from the digital assessment data.
Using Smart Paper is a simple process.
First, teachers can create their assessment worksheets in our app. They can provide rubrics for scoring. We also have AI to generate worksheets, so it takes only a minute to create a formative assessment of the topic of your choice.
Next, you can print out the worksheets for your students, and hand them out in the classroom. Students complete the worksheets with all of the benefits of handwriting and focus, and they don't need to log into any device, which can be often a distraction.
Once the teacher has all of the completed worksheets, they can simply click pictures of them using their phone in our app. Then, AI begins to do the work of grading. AI will read the handwriting for all questions, score the answers based on rubrics, and provide feedback on individual questions for every student. This helps the learners understand their mistakes and improve their learning. AI also provides analysis of the answers, identifying common mistakes.
Smart Paper has been used to grade multiple choice worksheets in India's Rajasthan state for the last two years for nearly 5 Million students. Our API is integrated into the government's teacher app, giving nearly 300,000 teachers in 65,000 schools access to our technology. Now, the Rajasthan state government's competency-based literacy and numeracy assessments for grades 3 to 8 are scored through Smart Paper. So far, we have graded over 115 Million worksheets in the state, saving countless hours for teachers. The data gathered using Smart Paper also creates report cards that go to over 2 Million households that are primarily low-income.
Our handwriting grading technology has been tested in five schools in India and is ready to be adopted in the upcoming school year.
