About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created SKOOL21 because we saw a disconnect between what students were learning in schools and the world they were growing into. In 2017, as we looked at how quickly technology was reshaping economies, workforces, and daily life, it became clear that most educational systems were not keeping up. Students were surrounded by smart devices, automation, and digital tools—but their classrooms often felt stuck in the past.

Our founder, Syed Munawar Shah, who has decades of experience in education and quality systems, led a team of educators and technologists to design a learning experience that’s both academically rigorous and deeply relevant. The result was an age-appropriate, globally aligned STEM pathway that integrates science, math, sustainability, and cutting-edge technologies like AI and IoT.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, SKOOL21 is more than a curriculum. It’s a learning journey that makes science and technology engaging, personal, and future-focused. A structured series of books and hands-on kits designed for every age group from 4 to 18.

Each grade level has its own unique learning kit paired with a specially designed STEM book. These resources are carefully aligned with international standards—like NGSS, Common Core, and the Cambridge Curriculum—while staying grounded in the Engineering Design Process and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. So while students learn about electricity or algorithms, they’re also solving real-world problems, building 21st-century skills, and exploring potential careers.

How has it been spreading?

The growth of SKOOL21 struggled in the beginning as the idea was new. However, with piloting and practise, schools found their relevance and impact. Ministries, schools, and educators are now recognising the urgent need to prepare students for a rapidly evolving world, and SKOOL21 provides a comprehensive, adaptable, and proven way to do that.

But what’s most exciting is the organic spread through educators and school leaders who see the immediate impact SKOOL21 has on student engagement and learning outcomes. Teachers often tell us their students are more curious, confident, and collaborative when using our materials. And because our program integrates easily with existing curricula, implementation is smooth even at scale.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Innovation is part of our DNA. What began as a STEM Resource Book series in 2021 has grown into a dynamic, ever-evolving learning ecosystem. In response to feedback from classrooms, emerging technologies, and the changing demands of the workforce, we made a bold move in 2024: we launched the Innovators Series.

This new series goes beyond traditional STEM. It integrates high-demand technologies like AI, data science, and IoT—giving students the tools not only to understand the future, but to build it. We've also refined the learning progression across all 14+ levels, ensuring that each book and kit builds seamlessly on the previous year’s skills and concepts.

We didn’t just add content—we deepened the connections. Career literacy, sustainability challenges, coding, and critical thinking are now embedded into every project. And because we’re aligned with global standards, we can adapt our resources to diverse educational contexts while keeping quality high.

Every year, we listen, we learn, and we improve. Whether it's upgrading our kits, enhancing digital integration, or supporting teachers with professional development, we’re committed to evolving SKOOL21 to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow.

Each level comes with a dedicated STEM Book and hands-on Kit, custom-designed to fit the developmental and academic needs of that age group.

We recommend starting with a pilot program. We’ll provide sample materials, onboarding support, and training sessions to ensure your team feels confident and excited. Our resources align with most global curricula, so integration into your current system is seamless.

Once you see the engagement and transformation in your classrooms, scaling up is easy. Our team supports curriculum mapping, teacher training, and even helps you present data to stakeholders or ministries.

Implementation steps

Identify Target Grades
Begin by selecting the grade levels you want to start with. SKOOL21 offers complete resources from Pre-K to Grade 12, including an optional Drone Tech level.
Acquire Curriculum Materials
Order the corresponding STEM Book and Hands-on STEM Kit for each selected grade. Each book and kit is age-appropriate and aligned to global academic standards (NGSS, Common Core, Cambridge).
Teacher Orientation & Training
Provide a basic training session for educators on the SKOOL21 methodology. Training covers:
Grade-wise kit training
Engineering design process and use of the books
Assessment and reflection techniques
Using teacher support materials
We offer virtual and in-person support for this step.
Curriculum Mapping
Map SKOOL21 content into your existing science and math timetable. The resources are flexible and can be implemented weekly, bi-weekly, or as part of a dedicated STEM block.
Begin with the First Project
Start with the first unit in the book. Each unit includes:

Theoretical background aligned with academic standards
Hands-on design task using the kit
Reflection, collaboration, and career connection elements
Ongoing Support & Assessment
Use built-in tools to assess student learning and engagement. Encourage documentation of student work via portfolios or presentations. Our support team remains available for troubleshooting and guidance.
Capstone Project
At the end of the academic year, organise an Innovation fair for the students to exhibit their innovations using the tools provided and the sustainability themes provided in the book.
