We created School of Gaming because of the universal concern parents seem to have regarding their children's gaming and screen time. We wanted to provide a service which makes screen time into quality time. Digital games have a bad reputation among parents, but we wanted to show the world that games can be used as a powerful force of education and development in children's lives.
There is a huge problem in the world today, which is the radical decline of play in children's lives. Play teaches us the vital skills we need to cope with the ever-changing world.
At School of Gaming we believe in the power of play. Play crosses the limits which school and free-time activities set for the development of children’s imagination and creativity. By making kids play again we help them to become better global digital citizens. Play develops good practices for children’s physical and mental wellbeing and helps them to gain important skills of the future.
Regardless where the play happens, the benefits are clear. Our Minecraft worlds serve as the digital playgrounds and our trained and certified Game Educators provide the safe place, immersive experience and friendly guidance.
In practice; we play Minecraft with children online. Children participate in weekly Minecraft clubs which are led by our trained Game Educators, or Gedus as we call them. Always the same time, with the same Gedu. Thus creating a safe place where children can express themselves freely and be who they are. You can think of our gedus being like "dungeon masters" in a role-play setting.
Our solution detects the development of the children using our own AI backed technology. We can measure the skill development of the skills that are otherwise hard to measure: social skills, emotional skills and language development. The results are generally anonymous, but can be shared with parents and the child if so wanted.
Already 10.000 families have already participated in our online activities. Outside Finland we have had nearly 500 families as customers.
Obviously it has been an iterative process to learn more about the customer (parents + child) wants and needs. Over the past years we have managed to find an approach that is focused enough, but also solves a big enough global problem.
You can join our free Minecraft demo sessions we run every Friday on Zoom.
