Target group
An education centred on meaningful learning, which values curiosity, relationships and action aiming to form citizens with integrity, creativity and accountability, capable of learning throughout their lives. The school should be a living lab, a space capable of providing the conditions for everyone, without exception, to fulfil their potential and, together, build shared futures.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Scholé emerged from a desire to reinvent the school: a space where learning is natural, human and happy. In a changing world, it proposes a model of integral and inclusive education, where the focus is not on teaching, but on meaningful learning.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Scholé is organised around transversal learning projects lasting between 5 and 8 weeks, based on design thinking principles, experiential theory and the project-based pedagogy applied at Kaospilot, a Danish business school renowned worldwide for its high social impact. Students start the process with real issues, explore their curricular and extracurricular knowledge and develop impactful solutions. Each project is supported by ‘Learning Arcs’, which articulate content, competences, attitudes and values. Assessment is continuous, participatory, authentic and multidimensional. The school's physical and social spaces are carefully designed to foster collaboration, curiosity and well-being. Learning is expanded to the local and international community through collaborations with cultural, scientific and social institutions and companies from different sectors.

How has it been spreading?

Over the last years, Scholé has consolidated its pedagogical proposal, achieving significant results in terms of well-being, student involvement and the children's learning process. Strategic partnerships have been created and various research and development projects have been promoted in collaboration with European organisations. The institution was honoured as an Ashoka Changemaker School.
In the near future, there are plans to expand the school in terms of the number of students and levels of education. There are also plans to set up a teacher development academy, at national and international level, to promote the recognition and appreciation of the role of the teacher, share learning methodologies, train educational advisors and produce open teaching materials, expanding innovat

If I want to try it, what should I do?

The implementation of Scholé's pedagogical model requires the adoption of fundamental principles such as experiential learning, the design of learning arches and the valorisation of children's agency. The initial training of the educational team, co-creation with the community and adaptation of the physical space are fundamental, with the priority being to identify low-investment solutions.

Implementation steps

Inspire and educate
Get in touch with Scholé, talk to our School Director and our Pedagogical Director. Allow yourself to embrace a new way of being a school. Be inspired. Check our resources, see the documentaries we suggest, ask questions, visit us, dare to disagree & debate.
Initial training for the educational team in the principles of project pedagogy, experiential learning and playful learning.
Invitation to change
Gather a team of like-minded educators willing to try. You dont have to agree on anything, you just have to be open to change and innovation.
Plan the Learning Arches in articulation with the national curricula. Set up key skills, knowledge, attitudes and values, what the school wants to stand for, apart from the formal learning curriculum. Set the vision and get support from Schole to create the conditions and context for change through workshops, hands on trainings and in practice consultancy
Co-creation with the community
Nurture your school culture without loosing sight on the vision you agreed on.
Provide opportunities for your school community to share, debate, showcase, ask questions, celebrate small victories. Surround yourself with like-minded schools, willing to be your community of practice and reflection. Share what you know and inspire others.
Transform the space
Involve the community in redesigning physical spaces and equipment to support and inspire active learning. What changes, however small, can be implemented to provide greater autonomy, initiative, collaboration, reflection, creation and creativity?
Implement and assess
Project development with authentic assessment, continuous feedback and shared reflections. Promoting the participation of all educational agents - teachers, staff, children, families, stakeholders - in the process of continuous evaluation and feedback, ensuring that everyone feels co-responsible for the implementation and success of the school's vision and mission.
