Pre-school Sponsorship for Below Poverty Line Children

We provide 'pump prime education' to below poverty line children by identifying these children in a location and Sponsoring them to attend private Nursery / Kindergarten schools so that they can then gain entry to Government Schools, which we arrange for them. We then follow up their education to ensure they do not drop out of K-12.

ROOM TO LEARN, through your donations, gives childhood back to the most disadvantaged children by getting them into the education system via cost effective pre-schooling.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

To get the very poorest children into education (in India currently)

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We raise funds in 1st world countries to locate and sponsor Below Poverty Line children to attend private pre-school where they learn literacy and numeracy and are then able to attend Government schools. Our Child Mentor & School Liaison Officers then follow their education progress to ensure any problems are solved and they do not drop out of the education system. Normally these children are otherwise lost to education. We in effect 'pump prime' education in a location for the very poorest, often economically displaced, children.

How has it been spreading?

Over the past two years we have expanded to educate 30 children. In 2022 we will educate 45. Thereafter we intend to rapidly scale our activities to new locations in India and raise funding to match.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Leverage 1st world donations / grants to provide 3rd world pre-school education. Consider outsourcing the schooling to existing private schools with negotiated discounts for large numbers of children. We found we could provide better education at lower cost this way rather than running our own schools, and we could scale rapidly. It also overcame issues with bringing funds into country.
