Responsible and Participatory Democracy

What we do?

Responsible and Participatory Democracy is a learning programme designed by the Espacio Civico Foundation in early 2020. It was originally planned for kick-off in April 2020. Due to the pandemic we are planning a re-launch of the programme in an online format. This is a collaborative effort undertaken by various civil society organizations in Panama. The programme aims to focus on enhancing citizen skills, experience, and knowledge, targeting (initially) high school graduates, university students and community leaders.

Why we do it?

Committed citizens with their natural abilities, aided by the proper programme can provide a solid foundation for collaborative action between Government and the population. This collaboration fosters community organization and attitudes of responsibility and strategic thinking. Choosing the target audience is also key to the institutionalization of a solid culture of citizen participation and to embed the principles of an open government into the social fabric of younger generations.
