About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created Oranctual Jungle to solve a critical and persistent challenge in Malaysian primary education—students’ low proficiency in English vocabulary and grammar, especially in rural areas. Despite English being a core subject from early years, many students struggle with word recognition, spelling, pronunciation, and contextual usage, which leads to poor performance in exams like the UASA. Traditional teaching methods—rote memorization and textbook drills—often fail to engage learners, especially those with limited exposure to English at home.

Our innovation emerged from the urgent need for a fun, motivating, and effective solution. By integrating game-based learning, AI voice feedback, and adaptive content, Oranctual Jungle empowers students to learn at their own pace while building confidence and enjoyment in using English. We aim not just to improve academic outcomes, but also to make learning English a joyful, inclusive experience for every child.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, Oranctual Jungle is a vibrant mobile learning app with five gamified modules designed to build vocabulary, spelling, and pronunciation. Students choose from games like:

Jungle Reading Fun (AI-driven pronunciation),

Orang Utan Rumble (word recognition and spelling),

Jungle Word Quest (interactive vocabulary quiz),

Jungle Bus Spell Master (puzzle-based spelling challenges), and

OrangUtan Word Explorer (an interactive dictionary).

Teachers use the Learning Analytics Dashboard to track students’ progress and give targeted feedback. The app automatically adjusts difficulty based on student performance through adaptive learning technology. It is especially helpful in classrooms with mixed proficiency levels, and many students even continue playing at home. Feedback from teachers shows increased motivation, and over 90% of students report enjoying learning English this way.

How has it been spreading?

Oranctual Jungle was piloted in four primary schools (2 SK, 2 SJKC), where it showed significant improvements in student literacy and engagement. After measurable success—a 38% increase in vocabulary use and 37% increase in speaking confidence—it gained attention from education stakeholders.
Support from the Ministry of Education, English language coaches (JU BI), and teacher training institutes (IPGM) helped validate the app’s curriculum alignment.

Through workshops, teacher training sessions, and national innovation showcases, the app has begun expanding across districts. A planned rollout with 10 schools will serve as a model for broader adoption. With continued evidence, partnerships, and platform updates, we aim to scale this innovation nationally and potentially across ASEAN in the future.

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

Based on teacher and student feedback, we introduced several enhancements:

AI Voice Recognition to help improve pronunciation in real time.

Adaptive Learning System (ALS) to personalize difficulty based on each student's level.

Offline Mode for students with limited internet access.

Gamified Points and Badges to boost motivation and competition.

MBK-Friendly Visual Interface with clearer fonts, sounds, and larger icons for students with learning difficulties like dyslexia.

We also integrated CEFR-aligned vocabulary to better match national curriculum goals and exam standards like UASA.
