We created this initiative to help teachers understand and implement the new Brazilian National Standards. Our step-by-step lesson plans assist teachers in preparing classes so students can develop the required skills. The initiative also aims to translate the new standards into the reality of public schools, with support from over 600 teachers across the country.
Noticing that teachers needed support with new Brazilian National Standards´ implementation, we searched for global benchmarks and drew inspiration from LearnZillion, a US-based organization. In collaboration with them, we developed Lesson Plans to bridge the gap between the National Standards and classroom planning. Key principles included student-centered learning and alignment with public school realities, with over 600 teachers involved as authors. We focused on both the development of the curriculum skills into a scope and sequence of lessons and the creation of content for each lesson (exercises, guides, links, and texts to broaden perspectives). Our Lesson Plans, which scored an 88+ NPS among teachers, marked the first national effort to produce free-of-charge, online classroom materials. Currently, we are exploring ways to integrate the Lesson Plans into an AI-powered interface designed to assist teachers.
Since launching Lesson Plans for teachers in February 2018, we've tracked user feedback to understand usage patterns. The content was adapted for remote learning in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. By 2023, Nova Escola’s Lesson Plans attracted nearly 1 million monthly users, achieved an NPS score of over 88, and consistently scored above 9 out of 10 on quality assessments. Looking ahead, we aim to create new Lesson Plans and enhance existing ones using AI interfaces, enabling teachers to better adapt the original plans to fit their specific contexts.
Access Nova Escola’s platform through this link: https://novaescola.org.br/planos-de-aula. The content is entirely in Portuguese. You should select the school grade (e.g., 2º ano) and the curricular component (e.g., História). The page will then display the most used Lesson Plans, along with a button to view all of them.
