Despite their dedication, many teachers lack the essential skills, knowledge, and mindsets to prepare students for 21st-century challenges, hindering efforts to achieve quality education as outlined in Agenda 2030 and the global Transforming Education initiative. We developed the NextGen Teacher Toolkit to address this gap and started the Bootcamp.
Our Innovation is a combination of Do It Yourself(DIY) using the Toolkit, and Participatory Learning(PL) at the Bootcamps.
The Bootcamp is a community sharing for reflection and sharing as well as an ecosystem for pedagogical exploration. Our Bootcamp goes beyond skills and knowledge during each session; each Bootcamp is designed and implemented to reignite educators' passion for teaching, as well as embracing new ways of teaching that can have a genuine impact on Nigeria's future.
The STRUCTURE of our TOOLKIT takes a progressive approach to learning. To help teachers have a full understanding and mastery of the core themes, we started from the basic, fundamental concepts before gradually tackling more challenging concepts. Combined with self-reflections, interactive explorations and tasks, the toolkit is designed to help teachers build a strong foundation and increase their confidence in applying the learnings in their classroom.
To date, the Next-Gen Teachers Bootcamp has trained and equipped over 1,000 educators across four Nigerian states, directly improving teaching practices and indirectly reaching thousands of students through better classroom delivery. In addition, we have established 200+ active Peer Learning Circles, which now function as self-sustaining professional communities of practice, ensuring collaboration, accountability, and long-term teacher development. Our credibility and alignment with national priorities have been further validated through endorsements and partnerships with the Federal Ministry of Education, Lagos SUBEB, Kwara State UNESCO Office and the Enugu State Office of SDGs. The scaling is through the state's education department's interest and invitation.
At the moment, we are designing the digital version of the Bootcamp using a Learning Management System (LMS). This is to open up access to wider communities of educators in Nigeria and globally.
