About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

To be able to provide free social-emotional learning lesson plans for elementary students to foster not just academic but also social growth. Be able to provide our students with a safe and fun space to explore emotions, build relationships, and develop problem-solving skills. Mutual Minds is a youth-led initiative founded by high school students with a shared passion for social-emotional learning and youth empowerment. We create and deliver engaging, age-appropriate life skills workshops for elementary students.
We believe in the power of peer connection and that students can be leaders and role models for one another. Through monthly workshops that incorporate games, activities, and discussions, we aim to help young learners develop emotional intelligence, self-awareness, empathy, and resilience.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Today, Mutual Minds designs original lesson plans that are based on the IB Learner Profile and the UNICEF Life Skill Framework. By hosting monthly workshops atan after-school care program for students in elementary grades 3-5. Mutual Minds provides students with a safe and fun space to explore emotions, build relationships, and develop problem-solving skills. Social and emotional growth is being identified through student self-assessments and volunteer reflections.

How has it been spreading?

Starting from being an after-school care session, Mutual Minds, through different initiatives, has been spreading online and in Nepal and Cambodia, where the Mutual Minds founders have traveled and delivered the lesson plan with the local children, helping to spread the need for social-emotional learning.
