Molly's Class Education Administration was created with the purpose of facilitating the continuity of teaching and learning, to enable second year students to access the learning material from any place and at any time during the lockdown season created by COVID-19 pandemic. This online platform was crated to demonstrate to students that " Facebook enhances teaching and learning".
As a teacher I first plan for the content through preparation of schemes of work, lesson plans and notes with the aid of an iPad and laptop.
I type the notes first, record them with the aid of a camera on an iPad, laptop and desk top computer through the use of Microsoft office PowerPoint 360 and some times I use Active Presenter to create a screen cast.
The created screen cast is exported and i create videos which I later upload on a Facebook page Molly's class Education administration. Then i invite my students to come and read the materials posted on the page and continue learning.
For purposes of accessibility to all learners I burn the videos on CD's or DVD's which I send to students more especially the ones who lack Smart phones and those in remote areas with no network. Also I print the materials in hard copies which students read any time and in any place. However the printed materials are limited in that the teacher's voice is not hard and even is not seen teaching.
Due to the lockdown caused by COVID19 pandemic, I could not accesses my students for face to face sessions but all the time i could see my students on Facebook only uploading photos, updating their status and even charting with one another. As a teacher I asked my self! how can I make Facebook a learning platform?. Later I thought of creating a learning page on Facebook called Molly's Class Education Administration. I invited my students to join my platform and read the materials that I post on the page.
I started with only five students but as I talk now, eight hundred students have accessed the platform for purposes of learning at National Teachers College Kabale. I hope by the end of 2021 more students like two thousand will access the platform and continue learning in Uganda.
