School leaders in junior secondary education will acquire strong instructional leadership skills, and organize quality institutional-based continuous development. In turn, the learners will acquire the necessary personal and career competencies to enable them to become productive citizens.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

School leaders at the Junior Secondary School level will require capacity building on the ongoing curriculum reforms and instructional leadership through the provision of relevant targeted continuous capacity development.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The newly developed short course titled Effective School Leadership in Junior Secondary School will be delivered in a blended format, unlike previous KEMI courses, based on the flipped classroom model: with app-based self-paced learning alternated by in-person sessions that focus on deepening knowledge and acquiring skills.

How has it been spreading?

The course is to be hosted on a Moodle LMS with cohorts of 200-250 trainees (school leaders) undertaking the course simultaneously, using a premium bespoke Moodle app for the self-paced sessions, with face-to-face training facilitated by a pool of KEMI trainers. The trainers will also play a role in monitoring trainee participation and grading assignments of the e-portfolio.
