School leaders at the Junior Secondary School level will require capacity building on the ongoing curriculum reforms and instructional leadership through the provision of relevant targeted continuous capacity development.
The newly developed short course titled Effective School Leadership in Junior Secondary School will be delivered in a blended format, unlike previous KEMI courses, based on the flipped classroom model: with app-based self-paced learning alternated by in-person sessions that focus on deepening knowledge and acquiring skills.
The course is being hosted on a Moodle-based LMS with cohorts of 460 trainees (school leaders) undertaking the course simultaneously, using a premium bespoke Branded Moodle app for their self-paced learning, with face-to-face (virtual and in-person) training facilitated by a team of highly trained and skilled KEMI trainers. The trainers monitor trainee participation, facilitate online discussion forums, and grade assignments such as e-portfolios and reflective journals.
The KEMI eLearning App is available on Google Play Store and currently has been downloaded by over 1200 school leaders in 21 counties or regions in Kenya.
The program is currently hosting it's third cohort running till August 2025. A national rollout of the intervention is envisioned post 2026.
We have embedded digital learner progress tracking systems in the Learning Managament system that routinely send alerts and notifications to the KEMI instructors/trainers (tutors) and learners (school leaders in this case). We have integrated Leaderboards where learners earn Experience Points (XP) by completing various tasks. These measures have been put in to foster retention, engagement and motivation.
