Karate Co-Creation Lab

Rediscovering the power to live authentically through "non-competitive karate."

This model blends martial arts and art to build children’s self-efficacy through "non-competitive karate." Rather than focus on winning, it emphasizes co-creation and dialogue. Participants practice forms (kata) and express themselves creatively to recognize their strengths. First presented at ISPIM 2024, it received praise for its learner-centered vision.

Education should support the message, "It’s okay to be me." We need learning that favors introspection over ranking. Karate, as cultural practice, helps reshape education as a human-centered journey. DAO-inspired systems can make this shared, lasting, and inclusive.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

After 17 years of karate, I saw how competition can pressure students. In schools, it often lowers confidence. But karate teaches calmness, balance, and form—tools to grow within. I wanted a place where learners express themselves without judgment.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Starting in 2025, the program includes:

Weekly sessions with kata and movement

Reflection and group dialogue

Creative work using karate forms

A performance that reinterprets "kata"

It serves diverse youth, including those outside traditional schools or with international roots. A pilot is planned in Bangladesh, where I’ve worked before.

The concept was shown at ISPIM 2024 and will feature in Triple Helix 2025 and other events. Long-term, the program aims to become a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) to allow global co-creation without top-down control.

How has it been spreading?

The idea spread via conferences and social media. After ISPIM 2024, new educator ties formed in Japan and abroad. A pilot in Bangladesh is in discussion. A DAO model is also in progress to support decentralized learning networks.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Though still in preparation, one-on-one briefings and trials are available. Info is posted on SNS and our site. A facilitator course is not planned, but we welcome collaboration from interested partners.
