At Kamusi Technologies, we believe that access to quality education is a fundamental right that should be available to everyone regardless of their location, background, or socioeconomic status. Our innovation in Swahili language learning aims to bridge the gap between students' access to quality education and their ability to learn in a language that they understand.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Swahili speakers are estimated to be 100m across the globe. There are few learning resources dedicated to Africa’s most spoken native language, especially in a single ecosystem with a dynamic UI|UX. Swahili literacy is a challenge to tourists and local speakers across Kenya and the world, especially in rural areas where the respective mouth tongue is used to teach early childhood education.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Our solution addresses the need for high-quality Swahili language learning resources by providing users with access to a range of comprehensive and user-friendly tools and resources that support different aspects of language learning.
We use technology to develop and deliver our language learning resources, which allows us to provide users with interactive and engaging learning experiences. Our proprietary curriculum is based on industry best practices and is designed to help users build their language skills efficiently and effectively.
We have evidence that our solution works, as evidenced by the growing number of users who have downloaded and used our Kamusi Apps. Since our launch in 2020, we have attracted over 500,000 users to our platform, and we have received positive feedback from users who have reported improvements in their language skills as a result of using our resources.

How has it been spreading?

Main achievements in the last 1-2 years include launching two successful Kamusi Apps for Swahili language learning, attracting over 500k users, and receiving positive feedback and language skill improvements reported by users.
Our goals for the next 2-3 years are to expand our reach and impact, increase user engagement, and develop new innovative features to enhance our users' learning experience. We plan to scale up our marketing and outreach efforts, develop partnerships with educational institutions and organizations, and continue to improve our technology and curriculum. Ultimately, our goal is to become the go-to platform for Swahili language learning, serving millions of users globally.
