About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

As a teacher in an underserved school, hygiene was a challenge, this caused learners to miss school due to the hygiene related illnesses, this in turn affected their academic performance to curb the issue I used oil containers and installed taps for the classes in our school. we painted the containers to make it more appealing for the young learners installed a stand for safety and taught the importance of hygiene to learners, teachers and parents.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

The young learners with the help of their teachers wash hands before eating, after play and after visiting the toilet. We monitor and evaluate the progress through the attendance and performance to instill the spirit handwashing we also motivate by gifting hygiene champions using small tokens to motivate the learners on hand washing practices. We ensure to train parents and teachers on the practices. W e are looking at making our own soap from chemicals and upscale toother schools.

How has it been spreading?

We started with two stations without stands and upon winning a seed fund from teach for kenya we added more for all the classes. Trained the stakeholders and made stands for all the hand washing stations

How have you modified or added to your innovation?

We have painted them to be more appealing.
Added stands for the safety of our learners.
Trained the educational stakeholders.
Maintained and repaire the containers for durability.
