The inactive life style we are facing today is a huge problem which Gymi Furniture tries to tackle. Kids spend a big part of their days at school, and that is why the physical environment in schools plays a big role in their lives. If the physical environment encourages to movement, kids will move, naturally.
The lack of motor skills is another problem - without movement, motor skills will not develop. Without movement and mastering of motor skills, cognitive learning is more difficult. We know that balance skill training has a straight impact on our brain making it easier for us to focus and learn cognitive skills. Gymi Furniture is a way to make moving and balance skill training possible in class and at the same time make sitting in class easier, fun and healthy.
Gymi Furniture was created by Christina Nurmi, founder of Gymi - Kids' and Teens' Health Club chain. After having the health club business for seven years, Christina wanted to bring the movement into places kids spend most of their time: to kindergardens and schools. That's how Gymi Furniture came to be.
Gymi Furniture is now used in several Finnish and Swedish schools and kindergardens and feedback has been very positive. The scandinavian clear cut furniture brings peace to class, enhances cognitive learning, motor skill acquisition and overall wellbeing.
