I believe that true education is not limited to within four walls. Debate opens the door for students to see the world from so many different perspectives, and encourages them to think outside the box by exposing them to real-world problems. It also provides them with essential tools such as logical reasoning and argumentation skills to try to solve these problems
Students are trained in basic debate skills and encouraged to participate in debate tournaments and championships. Additionally, debate tools can be applied in classrooms during teaching classes through different activities. Debates build students' communication and leadership skills, which are among the most essential 21st-century skills. With the information explosion we are witnessing, it is becoming even more crucial for everyone to possess minimum critical thinking ability to critique the information and news they receive every day through social media platforms.
Acquiring the aptitude to reason logically doesn't only improve the way students think, but it also builds their sense of responsibility, which greatly impacts their personalities, and sometimes it can even "literally" change their lives. Discussing world problems, ethical and philosophical dilemmas, laws, and more, practically shows students how much their opinions matter and how much they are respected.
Debate tournaments and championships play a key role in spreading debates among educational institutes. Competitions bring joy and excitement, and provide an opportunity for networking and making new friends.
I developed this guide to help educators train students on debate skills and to apply debates in classrooms in an interactive and innovative way. https://issuu.com/soumiadedeche/docs/_1.1_
