location_on Doha, Qatar
I started debates at Qatar University in 2014. after I graduated I became a juror and a trainer. In 2018 I joined Teach For Qatar NGO and worked as a science teacher, where I had the opportunity to design this schools debates booklet to help educators train students on debates skills in an innovative, simple and interactive way

about the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I believe that true education is not limited within four walls
Debate opens the door for students to see the world from so many different perspectives, and to think out of the box, by exposing them to real world problems, and giving them the essential tools such as logical reasoning and argumentation skills to try to solve these problems

How does your innovation work in practice?

Students are trained on basic debates skills, and are encouraged to participate in debates tournaments and championships. In addition, debates tools can be applied in classrooms during teaching classes in different activities.
Debates builds students' communication and leadership skills, which are among the most essential 21st century skills. And with the information explosion we are witnessing, it is becoming even more crucial for everyone to have a minimum critical thinking abilities to critique the information and news they receive everyday through social media platforms.
Acquiring aptitude to reason logically doesn't only improve the way students think, however it also builds their sense of responsibility which greatly impacts their personalities, and sometimes it can even "literally" change their lives. discussing world problems, ethical and philosophical dilemmas, laws, ... etc practically shows them how much their opinions matter and how mush you have respect for them.

How has it been spreading?

Debates tournaments and championships have a key role in spreading debates among education institutes. Competitions bring joy and excitement, and are an opportunity for networking and making new friends.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

I developed a this guide to help educators train students on debates skills, and to apply debates in classrooms in an interactive and innovative way.
