Afghanistan is the only country in the world that bars girls and women from education beyond the primary level. While the DD Library was originally conceived to support Afghan teachers who taught under challenging circumstances, since then we have expanded to meet the learning needs of millions of Afghan children and adults. Besides the DD Library, which welcomed nearly 7,000,000 visitors between 2022 and 2025, we launched DD Courses in 2019, which now hosts 25 full open, free, self-paced courses. In 2022, in response to the closure of secondary schooling to girls in Afghanistan, we launched DD Classroom, an accredited online high school currently serving 700 full-time students. Darakht-e Danesh -- which means "knowledge tree" in Dari -- was created for teachers, students, and anyone with a curious mind who wants to learn more on a particular subject. Today, it keeps classroom doors open where they would otherwise be closed, ensuring that the knowledge can continued to spread.
