Classroom Sidewalk Game Project

place Bangladesh

Turning dull spaces into lively learning playgrounds!

Outdoor activities are essential for kids' mental growth. But, due to rapid urbanization, open spaces are reduced. With a very minimal cost, under the Classroom Sidewalk Project, Reflective Teens renovated corridors, school entrances and small spaces by the side of classrooms and turned them into colourful playing, where they can learn, interact with each other and build relationships with peers.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Urbanization has had a significant impact on playgrounds for children. As cities become more densely populated, there is less space available for playgrounds. This means that there are fewer playgrounds available for children, and those that do exist may be overcrowded or in disrepair.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Reflective Teens renovated corridors, school entrances and small spaces by the side of classrooms and turned them into colourful playing zones within the limited premises of the schools for the kids. Furthermore, playgrounds provide an opportunity for children to learn, interact with each other and build relationships with peers, which is essential for their social development.

How has it been spreading?

Back in 2021, starting from Chittagong, this cost-efficient model has been replicated over 25 schools and directly engaged 50,000+ school-going kids from 2 major divisions of Bangladesh.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

The replication model is the simplest!
1. Select a school and get permission
2. Hire painters, provide him/her required materials (paints basically) and instructions
3. Start renovation!

Implementation steps

Select a school and get permission
Select a school which do not have space for their kids to play. Approach the authority of the school and secure permission for this project.
Hire painters
Hire painters who will be doing the painting works. The painter could be a volunteer or a professional.
Provide him/her required materials
Provide the painters with all the required materials including painting outlines and necessary instructions regarding the project.
Start renovation!
Fix a date, preferably a weekend, and start the renovation.
