About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Virtually all house-hold appliances and goods are being imported into Nigeria, even our crude oil by-products are being imported because our refineries are not functioning. We export crude oil to import petroleum, we export cocoa to import chocolates, and we export trees to import furniture.
There is need for generation of Nigeria who will start thinking and acting CREATE than CONSUME.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

This is a project based learning platform to help our students develop the 21st Century skills: Creativity, Critical thinking, Communication and Collaboration. With the integration of ESD, we are giving them the chance to protect the lives on our planet, earth. Through the Caleb STEAM Hub, we’re helping put the arts at the heart of education, inspiring our students to create and participate in high quality interdisciplinary activities through STEAM (SDG 4).” It is a Mentor-Protégé programme in which selected teachers will mentor some students in each components of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
We used so many tech tools to research different issues and organise ideas and creative concepts. The students connected with professional via Microsoft Teams to have interaction and share their art based sustainability projects with the students aimed at inspiring and enriching their global perspective.

How has it been spreading?

The Caleb GREEN-STEAM Hub in 2020 created 3D recycled artwork to call attention to plastic pollution crisis in the oceans and how it affect the endangered species under water. It caused attitudinal change towards plastic pollution through an artwork created from wastes (used plastic items and bottle covers). In 2021, Caleb GREEN-STEAM Hub created 3D recycled artwork to help the students contribute to the solution of global warming and related issues like deforestation. It is titled “Restoring our Forests”. The project has opened the consciousness of the school community to Tree planting.
In the next two years we hope to connect our students to real-world professionals and experts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Also improving on global engagement and exchanges.
