This faculty training program is anchored on one belief: When teachers are cared and supported, it will create a climate of compassion and hope that reaches to their students. Our teachers are led to a pathway where we foster purpose, commitment, and leadership. This program nurtures the “C” in faculty- character, competence and commitment because without C, faculty becomes “faulty”.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I created the innovation when the pandemic started last 2020, I have to think of a comprehensive, holistic approach to teacher training where the results are responsive to the needs of the times, the uncertain times. The innovation has to reach the ultimate goal of teaching what truly matters. What are the non-negotiables int he classroom? This is the question I want to answer in designing the innovation. The answer came: knowledge and skills are passing without the heart therefore this innovation must have a strong grip on the pedagogy of care and centered on people and establishing a culture of excellence that starts when a teacher joins the institution and as he embraces leadership for the institution.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

C²A²ST²LE is an overarching innovative program that aims to build a culture of transformative and relevant teaching and learning that recognizes the challenges during the pandemic and even after the pandemic. It addresses the need of how will NBSC, as the newest state college in the country, fare through teaching and learning, research, and extension. The center of the program is the emphasis of the socio-emotional learning of the students. The experience of the pandemic has given a lot of lessons to educators on focusing on what is truly important. This is an innovative program because of the emphasis of alignment and clarity of the path that each faculty experience as he joins NBSC and the emphasis of Socio-emotional learning. The training and activities centers around value formation and giving importance to emotional well-being of the person.
In summary, under C²A²ST²LE, these are the KEY INITIATIVES:
TULAY: (to bridge) – structures transition program for industry professionals and basic education teachers joining higher education
PAG-AMUMA (to care) – a faculty mentoring program
PAGMUGNA (to build) – a department -based initiative for improving student learning outcomes
PAG-GIYA ( to guide) – training in outcomes-based education , pedagogy, heutagogy and design thinking
TEACHER AGENCY on Assessment Literacy( ToT) a capacity building for faculty trainers on assessment skills
Transformational Leaders Academy- Leadership development for transformative school leaders.

How has it been spreading?

This has been spreading for 4 years and also shared with other educators in the region. The C²A²ST²LE programs has sub-programs and have been cascaded tot he faculty semester by semester for 4 years already. There are formal sessions done and various mentoring sessions in the way lessons are designed and research on assessment lieteracy and leadership. In every semester, we revisit instructional practices of the teachers and re-examine where we are in our common goal of establishing a culture of excellence and care.
