We created SchoolConnect to close the severe equity gap in Nigeria’s public secondary education system. Over 60% of students attend under-resourced schools where shortages of qualified teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and lack of digital access result in poor exam outcomes and limited future opportunities. At some schools, a single mathematics teacher serves more than 200 students, far above the recommended ratio. This situation not only reduces academic performance but also deepens inequality and restricts students’ life chances. SchoolConnect was developed as a practical, scalable solution: a tech-powered learning model that supplements existing classrooms with expert tutors, AI-driven personalized learning, and real-world project work. The goal is to equip underserved students with the knowledge and problem-solving skills to excel in exams, pursue higher education, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Our pilot demonstrated that transformation is possible—achieving a 90%+ credit pass rate in Math compared to the national average of less than 40%.
In practice, SchoolConnect is a blended learning system that combines technology, expert instruction, and community engagement. We equip public schools with internet-enabled digital classrooms—computers, projectors, and learning platforms. University scholars and trained tutors deliver weekly lessons in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Students use AI tools for personalized support, while milestone and capstone projects challenge them to apply knowledge to solve community problems, building both academic and 21st-century skills. Teachers also receive training and digital resources to strengthen classroom delivery. Mentorship and continuous improvement are built into every phase. The model is turnkey: once funding is provided, we deploy equipment, onboard tutors, and begin instruction within weeks. The outcomes are measurable—improved exam pass rates, higher student engagement, and tangible problem-solving projects that benefit local communities—making it both impactful and replicable.
SchoolConnect began with a successful pilot at the School of Science, Ile-Ife, where students achieved a 100% pass rate in Mathematics and significant gains in other STEM subjects. These results drew attention from education stakeholders, including alumni associations, state education boards, and community groups eager to replicate the model. For example, at Methodist High School Old Students Association (OSAMETHSI), we deployed SchoolConnect to address critical teacher shortages in Ilesa. Beyond alumni networks, we are engaging state governments, corporate foundations, and philanthropists who view SchoolConnect as a scalable, cost-effective intervention. The program is structured for flexible replication—partners can fund a full school transformation, support digital access for one school, or underwrite a single subject. This tiered approach allows the initiative to spread organically across communities, driven by diverse stakeholders who recognize the value of equipping public schools with world-class teaching and learning infrastructure.
As the grantee, BrightHAT is prepared to implement SchoolConnect immediately with grant support. Once funding is secured, we begin by partnering with stakeholders to select beneficiary schools. Our team then deploys digital infrastructure—computers, projectors, internet access, and learning platforms—and recruits/trains qualified tutors. Program delivery combines expert-led lessons in STEM and English, personalized learning, and community-focused projects. Each phase is tracked through real-time dashboards and detailed progress reports, giving grantors full visibility into impact. At the end of the funding cycle, we work with partners to evaluate outcomes and co-design pathways to scale the model across additional schools, districts, or states. In essence, grantors who support SchoolConnect enable a turnkey, evidence-based intervention that can be replicated at low cost to deliver measurable improvements in student performance, confidence, and problem-solving capacity in underserved Nigerian communities.
