We developed this because our psychological fitness is as important as our physical fitness. Mental ill-health is a global problem, exacerbated by the Covid19 pandemic. We have more children than ever reporting poor mental health, more time lost from work due to ill-health and support services buckling under the pressure. We have to shift how we think about and nurture mental health.
We build psychological and emotional resilience in children and young people (aged 9-24) by training and equipping the adults around them to pass on these unique skills in a teach-the-teacher model. We offer a ground-breaking approach – one that builds the psychological skills, along with the tools and capabilities to thrive in the 21st century. To be effective the model has to work across three levels; learning, practice and application. The more the skills are used the more competent and effective individuals become when faced with real life challenges. Our approach is applicable across many domains including the communities at large and in the wider workforce. The behaviours we are building include vital skills such as flexible and realistic thinking, human connections, hope and optimism, self-regulation, self-awareness and compassion.
