We created BOOKR Class to address the widespread literacy and language challenges faced by children today. Across Europe, around 13 million children under 15 have literacy difficulties (EPALE, 2015), and 40–50% of learning problems are linked to issues with reading, vocabulary, comprehension, and speaking. These foundational skills are essential for academic progress and lifelong learning.
BOOKR Class offers a digital library of scaffolded e-books designed to support learners at different levels. These e-books function as assistive technology (AT), helping students access and understand texts that would otherwise be too difficult (Anderson-Inman & Horney, 1999). Features like narration, animations, vocabulary highlights, and interactive exercises support both reading fluency and comprehension.
Our goal is to make language learning more inclusive, engaging, and effective. Research shows that information and communication technologies can significantly enhance teaching and learning outcomes (Pittard et al., 2003), especially when designed with pedagogy in mind. BOOKR Class is built on these principles - combining storytelling with technology to create a rich, motivating environment for learners and teachers alike. We believe every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader, no matter their background.
BOOKR Class builds on the power of stories. It is a supplemental educational platform designed to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). It includes a curated selection of engaging, interactive books and games for children between 4 and 14 and a Teacher’s Dashboard for educators.
The growing library, aligned with CEFR and Lexile, consists of 1000+ interactive e-books with animated illustrations, authentic English voice-over, 5000+ games, and 4000+ flashcards. ELL curriculum experts and psychologists carefully select and design all learning content. Using the application improves children’s reading comprehension, writing, listening, and communicative skills. At the same time, it develops 21st-century skills: the stories introduce new cultures, raise awareness, and develop creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills. BOOKR Class is an efficient partner in language learning, too: it helps them practice English spelling, grammar, and pronunciation.
Besides the app, BOOKR Class provides a Teacher’s Dashboard that tracks overall engagement, reading habits, assignment completion, level progression, and language skill development. Therefore, teachers can better understand their students’ performance. Additionally, BOOKR Class incorporates AI-driven features like personalized content recommendations, reading comprehension assessments, and vocabulary enhancement tools to support and enrich the learning journey.
BOOKR Class has grown through strong partnerships with distiributors, schools, teachers, and educational publishers around the world. We’ve gained traction by combining pedagogical value with an engaging user experience - and by listening closely to the needs of educators. As more schools embrace digital tools, BOOKR Class has been adopted in over 40 countries, supported by training, localisation, and research-based content development.
